Bill Bernache
(1st Generation Insurance Professional)
The Bernache family has been tied to the insurance industry for nearly 100 years. Bill Bernache began his insurance journey in the 1930s. He started his agency in North Hampton Massachusetts and prided himself on providing unmatched service to his clients.
William Bernache
(2nd Generation Insurance Professional)
William Bernache carried the torch and entered into the insurance industry in the mid 1960s. He was working for a national carrier until 1988 when the company proclaimed “Massachusetts was too expensive for business" and pulled out of the state. This left customers without coverage and scrambling for answers.
William and partners founded AEGIS Insurance Agency with the mission to fight back against the massive insurance companies that cared very little about their Massachusetts customers. Richard (3rd generation) joined the agency at this time. William had a vision of an independent agency that put clients interests first, while providing competitive rates.
Our Name Explained
The AEGIS is a shield carried primarily by Zeus in Greek mythology. This divine shield was to serve one purpose, to shield and protect. Aegis Insurance Agency utilizes this unorthodox name to remind ourselves of our purpose. We are here to shield and protect all of our customers. Our expertise and numerous years of experience positions us to help build insurance policies that are tailored to individual needs.
Meet Our Team
Richard Bernache
(3rd Generation Insurance Professional)
Principal
Richard began his career at AEGIS Insurance Agency in 1988 earning a weekly salary of $100. Over time, he grew his client base and in 1997 when Bill Bernache retired, he assumed the position as partner.
Richard's dedication to his clients and his personal touch has allowed him to enjoy a successful career. His clients appreciate the absolute dedication he has to ensuring they are properly protected.
David Bernache
(3rd Generation Insurance Professional)
Principal
David has been working with AEGIS Insurance Agency since 1996. He began his insurance career without a single client. He has grown his customer based significantly in 2016 and became a partner with AEGIS Insurance Agency.
He goes above and beyond to ensure his clients get the best rate. And when there's an accident, David is there to walk his clients through every step.
Dylan Bernache
(4th Generation Insurance Professional)
Insurance Agent
Dylan came on board in 2017 as a Junior at Saint Michael's College in Vermont. He recently graduated in the spring of 2018 with a Bachelor’s Degree. He’s extremely ambitious and loves a good competition. Dylan obtained his Property and Casualty license in 2018 and intends to further his financial career with many potential avenues.
Ashley Griffin
Office Admin
Ashley came on board in 2019. She is highly dedicated & always willing to help in any way she can. Ashley is eager to further her education in the field. She takes initiative when helping clients and wants to be a resource for anyone who calls in.

AEGIS Insurance Agency has been locally owned and operated for over 30 years. It was founded by William J. Bernache and partners in 1988. For 25 years, Aegis had been located in Braintree. But has relocated to South Weymouth.
Two of Bill's sons, Richard and David, have followed in his footsteps. As kids, they both started out working as paperboys delivering the news on Liberty Street in Braintree. The newest members of the team now include Ashley Griffin and Dylan Bernache the youngest son of Richard.
We are a wonderful team here at AEGIS Insurance Agency and will always strive to deliver more than expected.
